About the studio
A small studio for brands that mean to last.
Vellum Studio is a small team in London working across brand, web and motion for clients who plan to be around in a decade, not just for a launch week. We work on six to eight projects a year by choice, small enough that the same three or four people see every project from the first workshop to the final file.
The studio started in 2016 above a print shop in Peckham, running client work alongside a still-unfinished typeface founder Imogen Carrow will not admit to abandoning. That first year was mostly naming projects and one very patient landlord. What carried over from the print shop is still the instinct to check how something prints, moves or wears before calling it finished.
We think most brand work fails for a boring reason: nobody stayed close enough to the actual product to notice where the story and the thing itself stopped matching. So we spend more time than is comfortable inside a client’s operation before we design anything, on the factory floor, in the fitting room, reading the complaint emails nobody wanted to forward us.
We keep the studio deliberately small and turn down more work than we take, because the alternative is spreading four people across twelve accounts and calling the result strategy. Every project gets the same core team from first workshop to launch, and we still ship the deliverables ourselves rather than handing production to a bench of freelancers you never meet.
